Hi,

have you had any thought of actually using a build system such as the infamous autotools, or something more modern such as CMake?

I have had a look at the compilation of NWChem and it's a mess... I have used CMake myself, and have found it extremely easy to use.

The next release of NWChem will have the GA toolkit build with autotools, whereas the NWChem chemistry software will still be old school. We are planning to go to a more automated build system. This is, however, a major task and we have only limited people resources to devote to this right now. hence, volunteers are welcome.
